Police have arrested 14 people allegedly involved in an online gambling network, in which serial cyanide murder suspect Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn and her husband, Pol Lt-Col Vitoon, were regular customers, Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn, the deputy national police chief, told the media today (Friday).

He said that the couple had incurred a huge amount of debt and police discovered that the money circulating in Sararat’s bank accounts, being used for gambling, amounted to about 93 million baht.

He disclosed that police started looking into the online gambling network after they realised that a large amount of the money in the accounts was linked to the gambling network.

He said that the huge debts might be the motive behindSararat and her husband committing the crimes, to steal money and valuables from their victims to settle what they owed.

Warrants have been issued for 21 suspects, but only 14 have been arrested so far, including two who are imprisoned onother charges and one has died, said Pol Gen Surachate.

He also said that police have seized assets worth over 15 million baht from members of the gambling network in Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Chon Buri, Chanthaburi, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Kanchanaburi, Songkhla, Trang and Khon Kaen.

The assets include three luxury cars, precious ornaments, as well as bank and cryptocurrency accounts.
