Democrat party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva today presented ten policies to upgrade the livelihood of the people in Bangkok by making the city “livable, beautiful, clean, safe and with opportunities”.
He said that the ten policies were screened from 50 issues associated with the city dwellers by the 30 city candidates of the party working in tandem with its policy team with inputs from the candidates.
He insisted that the ten policies are realistic and reflecting the real life of Bangkokians and “do not just float in the air.”
According to Abhisit, the ten policies include smart bus, smart taxi, stalls for vendors which are clean, safe and convenient, more public parks, unclogging of sewage drains every six months, improvements of privately-owned roads, special tourism zones, overhead utilities cables to be put underground and an application to fast-track the issuance of construction licenses.
The Democrat leader explained that under the smart bus concept, the party envisaged the replacement of the current city bus fleet with about 5,000 electric buses in seven years and this bus system would connect with the electric train and boat systems to facilitate travelling by commuters.
The online smart taxi service will be easily available and the process for the issuance of licenses to operate only taxi service will be much easier, said Abhisit, adding that the party would speed up the work to bring all utilities cables underground within 2022.
The ideal trading stalls for vendors, he said, must be clean, safe, easily accessible to shoppers, with parking space and toilets.
The party envisioned the creation of world-class tourist destinations in Chana Town, Soi Thonglor, Silom road, Khao Sarn road and Pak Klong Talad which would become special tourism zones.
