HONG KONG (Agencies) — Activist Joshua Wong, and another young social campaigner, were arrested this morning by police in Hong Kong ahead of this weekend’s planned mass protest, their party Demosisto said.

Wong was pushed into a minivan while on his way to South Horizons MTR station, Demosisto said on its official Twitter account.

“Our secretary-general Joshua Wong was just arrested this morning at roughly 7:30, when he was walking to the South Horizons MTR station,” it said.

“He was forcefully pushed into a private minivan on the street in broad daylight. Our lawyers following the case now,” it said.

It also reported that Agnes Chow, a 23-year-old social activist, was also later arrested at her home.  Earlier on Thursday, pro-independence leader Andy Chan was arrested at the airport, it said.

Pro-democracy groups have called another weekend of mass rallies but police said yesterday they have banned them for security reasons
