A migrant couple from Myanmar, in the Mae Sot district of Thailand’s northwestern province of Tak, has been found to have COVID-19, making them the first reported locally acquired infections for several weeks.
The 63-year old man and his 53-year old wife are currently unemployed and both are asymptomatic. They tested positive for COVID-19 on October 13th. It is reported that they had been in close contact with truckers from Myanmar.
Tak’s Governor, Mr. Pongrat Piromrat, said today that people in his province have been informed about the locally transmitted cases and advised to protect themselves against infection by wearing face masks, regularly washing their hands with sanitizer, maintaining social distancing and avoiding congested places.
Meanwhile, the CCSA reported ten new COVID-19 infections in Thailand, including the Myanmar couple.
The other eight include a 26-year old Nepalese student in quarantine in Pathum Thani, a 43-year old Thai restaurant owner returning from the United States, two female students and ahouse maid returning from United Kingdom, a 24-year Thai woman from the United Arab Emirates, a 57-year old Thai woman working at a spa in Poland and a 24-year old Thai office worker returning from Japan.
Cumulative infections in Thailand, to date, are 3,679, with 3,478 recoveries. 142 others are still being treated in hospitals and the death toll remains 59.
