The Governor of Rayong, Channa Iamsaeng, announced this morning that 11 new COVID-19 infections have been found in the province, raising the number to 552.

So far, only one COVID related death has been recorded in the province, 404 people have recovered and 14,341 people have been tested for the virus.

The new infections appear to trace back to three large clusters.

The first is from a beer garden in Plu Taa Luang sub-district, in Sattahip district of Rayong, where five infections were found. The second came from illegal gambling dens, while the third cluster is linked to family members of the infected, who have not shown any symptoms but still refuse to get tested.

The governor is urging anyone who visited Suan Mook market, in Noen Phra sub-district in Rayong, between January 8th and 12th to report to officials as soon as possible, because an infected person visited the market recently.

Meanwhile, the Director of Rayong Hospital, Chaiyasit Thepchatree, and psychiatrists are advising people affected by the outbreak not to let themselves become overly stressed and to keep updated and focus on the government’s relief measures.
