Thailand’s Department of Employment has suspended travel permits for Thai labourers bound for Ukraine following the country’s declaration of state of emergency.

The department’s director, Pairoj Chotikasathien, said Friday that their offices across the country have also been ordered to inform Thai labourers intending to travel to Ukraine or Russia about the situation.

The director also warned Thais to not fall prey to scammers claiming to be able to send them to Ukraine, because travel permits are currently suspended and will remain so until the situation improves.

At least 139 Thai labourers are currently in Ukraine according to the department and the Thai Embassy in Warsaw, Poland, has prepared plans to evacuate Thai people from Ukraine if the crisis deteriorates.
