The Phuket provincial communicable disease committee decided on Tuesday to scrap the requirement for COVID-19 testing of all arrivals by air, land and sea and the requirement to show proof of vaccination, in line with the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration’s (CCSA) decision last Friday.
The CCSA decided to scrap the requirement for RT-PCR testing of overseas arrivals and the “Test and Go” scheme for fully vaccinated travellers from May 1st, to simplify entry into Thailand. Self-administered rapid antigen COVID-19 tests are, however, recommended during their stay.
The “Thailand Pass” system remains in place for international arrivals, in which vaccinated travellers are required to present their proof of vaccination and appropriate insurance.
Phuket Governor Narong Woonsiew said yesterday that the provincial communicable disease committee had assessed COVID-19 situation in the province and found that infections are declining significantly, with only 98 new cases being recorded on Sunday, citing the statistics of the provincial health office.
Meanwhile, the provincial health chief, Dr. Kusak Kukiatikul, said that Phuket is fully prepared to cope with the situation, in case infections surge again after May 1st.
He disclosed that, currently, there are about 20 patients suffering from lung inflammations and about 25% of hospital beds on the island are occupied.
