A search and rescue operation has resumed today (Sunday) for a Japanese tourist who was washed away by stormy seas in Takua Pa district of the southern Thai province of Phang Nga yesterday, as he and his wife were swimming.

His wife was, however, rescued by a hotel employee, but her husband could not be found.

Hotel employees and emergency services mounted a search for the missing tourist, which was postponed for the night due to darkness and high waves.

Meanwhile, in neighbouring Trang province, officials of Hat Chao Mai National Park in Sikao district, hoisted red flags along Chao Mai beach, to warn tourists not to venture into the sea due to strong currents and high waves. Tourist boatoperators were also told to suspend their island-hopping and sight-seeing services.

In Krabi province, small tourist boats and ferries have taken shelter in the Ao Nang area. Red flags have also been hoistedat Ao Nang to warn tourists not to swim in the sea.
