Flash floods following heavy downpours hit several areas in Sichon and Tha Sala districts of the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat yesterday (Sunday).

An EMT, from the Siam Ruamjai Pu In Foundation, posted a video clip, showing Road No 401 partially flooded in Tha Khuen sub-district, with only one lane open to traffic.

Flooding was also reported in Sichon district. With a provincial councillor advising motorists to avoid the Khao Plai Dam route because of road and bridge damage.

Flooding is expected to continue today as more rain is forecast, covering about 70% of the province, according to the Meteorological Department.

The department also forecast more rain for Nakhon Si Thammarat, Surat Thani and Chumphon provinces, including heavy rain in some areas, until next Tuesday and this may cause flooding in low-lying areas and at the bases of mountains.

The movement of an intensifying low pressure cell looming over southern Thailand, from the Gulf to the Andaman Sea, is inducing heavy to very heavy rain in most of the southern provinces, according to the Weatherman.
