The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) may be fined over a million baht, after fans of the Thai national football team set off flares during the ASEAN Cup match against the Philippines at the Thammasat University Rangsit Campus stadium on Monday at southern end of the stadium.

Setting off flares while a match is under way may endanger players on the field and fans and is a violation of the rules of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

FAT sources said that they might be fined because Monday’s incident was not the first of its kind and the association has been fined before for similar violations. It depends on the report from the referee and the decision of the AFC’s disciplinary committee.

The FAT was fined 363,000 baht (~US$11,000 at the time) during an Asian Championship game, between the Under-16 Thai and Malaysian national teams, at Muang Thong Thani stadium in 2014. Malaysia won 1-0.

Then, at the ASEAN Championship match at the Rajamangala National Stadium five years ago, between Thailand and Indonesia, which Thailand won 2-0, the FAT was fined another million baht.
