The Election Commission has disqualified one prime ministerial candidate and nine party-list candidates after finding their qualifications do not meet the legal requirements.
Of the 63 prime ministerial candidates submitted by 43 parties for registration, the EC said that Rattha Phirawitthanapak, a candidate of the new and little known Rassadorn Vithi party, has not graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, as required by Section 160(3) of the Constitution and, is therefore, disqualified.
The screening committee of the EC has checked the qualifications of 1,898 party-list candidates submitted by 67 parties for registration and found out that the qualifications of nine of them do not meet the requirements.
As for constituency candidates, the election director of each constituency will announce the list of the candidates who are qualified to or disqualified from contesting the election in their respective constituencies. The master lists of candidates in each province, who are qualified or disqualified, will be announced by the provincial election office.
Election candidates who are disqualified can appeal to the Supreme Court within seven days of the EC’s announcement of the lists of prime ministerial, party-list and constituency candidates.
