Myanmar police are looking for a Thai man who opened fire with a handgun on Sunday night in a crowded food shop in Tachileik township, opposite Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai province, injuring three Thai nationals.

Initial Thai police reports say that the three victims, including a 28-year-old woman who was seriously wounded, went to Tachileik to work in entertainment venues and might have been involved in a conflict with the Thai gunman, whose identity remains unknown.

The reports say that the gunman walked into the food shop, which was crowded with many customers, and opened fire, causing customers to run for their lives.

Some witnesses claim that the gunman pointed his gun at some of the customers, but didn’t pull the trigger, presumably because they were not his targets.

After the shooting, the gunman fled. Those injured were taken to the Tachileik hospital for medical treatment.
