Deputy Interior Minister Chada Thaised has told his son-in-law, who is charged with extortion and bribery, to resign as mayor of Taluk Do sub-district in Uthai Thani province today (Wednesday).

The resignation will mean a vote for a new mayor, Chada said.

Yesterday, police and anti-corruption officials arrested Chada’s son-in-law, Veerachart Rassamee, and two other municipal officials, a vice major and the chief engineer of the municipality.

“Veerachart has been freed on bail. For me, it would be taking advantage of people if Veerachart is only suspended from his duties, pending the outcome of the investigation. He should quit to allow the election of a new mayor,” Chada told reporters.

This would set new political standard in local politics.

Referring to the case, Chada said, as a deputy Interior minister, his job is already done but, as a father, he has a duty to provide all the children with love and warmth and walk together, no matter how difficult the route might be.

He asked the public not to post photos of his family members on social media.

The arrest of Veerachart was a big blow to Chada, as he has been assigned by Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to lead the national crackdown on influential figures. Chada was born in the province and is now an MP representing Uthai Thani under banner of the Bhumjaithai party.
