The Criminal Court today granted bail to Tantawan Tuatulanon, a monarchy reform activist, who was detained for allegedly interrupting a royal motorcade on February 4.

Tantawan will have to wear a monitoring ankle bracelet during her freedom on remand.

Tantawan, charged twice with lèse majesté in 2022, and Natthanon Chaimahabutra, were arrested on February 13 after a car in which they were travelling pursued the motorcade of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on a Bangkok expressway.

They were accused of sedition, breaking the Computer Crime Act and causing a public disturbance.

Both went on hunger strike during their detention. As her condition was deteriorating, Tantawan was taken from the Corrections Department Hospital to Thammasat University Hospital.

Tantawan was staying in the same cell as Netiporn Sanesangkhom, 28, a monarchy reform activist also on hunger strike, who died on May 14th after suffering cardiac arrest while she was being detained on remand.

The Thai Lawyers for Human Rights Centre revealed that its lawyers will submit bail requests for the release of Natthanon.
