The opposition Move Forward party submitted its rebuttal statement to the Constitutional Court today, in defence against charges by the Election Commission (EC) that it had attempted to overthrow the constitutional monarchy with its election campaign to amend the country’s lèse majesté law.

The EC is demanding that the court dissolve the party and banish its executive committee members from politics for ten years.

The rebuttal statement was written by party leader Chaithawat Tulathon. In the statement, the party insists that it has no intention to topple the constitutional monarchy and that has not committed the offence.

Meanwhile, party spokesman Parit Wacharasindhu said today that they will reveal the full content of the rebuttal this Sunday, which coincides with the district level selection of new senators.

He maintains that the party has no ulterior political motive in the timing of the publication of the content of the statement.

The Constitutional Court is yet to set the date for the reading of its ruling in the case.
