The Election Commission revealed today that 2,164 men and 836 women passed the provincial-level voting for new senators yesterday and they advance to the national-level vote on June 26 at the Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani.

The 200 candidates who win the national-level vote will become senators.

In Bangkok, 40 candidates, representing 20 background groups, advanced to the final round.

Several well-known figures lost in the provincial-level vote. Among them were former deputy attorney-general Nate Naksuk; former election commissioners Sodsri Sattayatham and Somchai Srisutthiyakorn; former Democrat MP Sarun Chanphitak; actor Phongsakorn Mahapaoraya; former senator Rosana Tositrakul; Khlong Toei slum  crusader Prateep Ungsongtham Hata and former Democrat MP Tankhun Jitt-itsara.

Among those who advance to the final round are Nanthana Nanthawaropas, a former dean of Krirk University; Atchara Atchayakachart of a mass media group; former national human rights commissioner Angkhana Neelapaijit; Sangsiri Trimakkha, Decha Nutalai and Chukiat Lertsupanont of the farming group; Phichit Likhitkitsomboon and Chanthana Wankaew of the educational group.
