Police found decomposing human remains in a black plastic bag today, on an empty plot of land close to a housing estate in Bang Phra sub-district of Chachoengsao province.

The remains are thought to be those of a missing Chinese woman and they have been taken to the Police General Hospital in Bangkok for an autopsy and DNA test.

The woman, who went missing early this month, was last seen in CCTV footage in Bangkok’s Sukhumvit-Asoke area at about 5pm on July 1st, with a Chinese man, who picked her up and drove away in a rented car, according to Pol Maj-Gen Thiradet Thumsutee, commander of the Investigation Division of the Metropolitan Police.

He said that police checked with a car rental company and were told that a Chinese man, identified as Qingyan Ma, rented the vehicle on June 30th and returned it on July 3rd, adding that he left Bangkok for Hong Kong on the same day.

A check of the car’s GPS system shows that the vehicle travelled to a fish farm in Mueang district of Chachoengsao province and police believe that Ma might be involved in the disappearance of the Chinese woman, whose identity has not been disclosed.

Pol Maj-Gen Noppasilp Poonsawat, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, told the media that the place where the body was found corresponds with CCTV evidence showing that the rented car was being driven by the man who was seen with the missing Chinese woman on July 1st. The same vehicle also stopped, at about 3am on July 3rd, near to where the body was discovered.

A man was seen leaving the car carrying something, said Pol Maj-Gen Noppasilp.

According to police investigators, the decedent had undergone breast augmentation and facial surgery.
