A search and rescue team arrived at Ngorn Nak (Dragon’s Crest) mountain in the southern province of Krabi late yesterday afternoon, to look for a Dutch tourist who had been reported missing by his parents.

The family of three, Rinus Gerard Bakker, his wife Karin Monique and 18-year-old son Tim, set out yesterday on a jungle trek to Ngorn Nak mountain clifftop, a popular viewpoint.

On the way back, however, the son complained of being tired and thirsty, prompting the parents to tell their son to wait near the Nak waterfall, as they climbed down the mountain to fetch food and drink.

They returned some time later, but their son was not there. They searched for him, but to no avail. They also called his mobile phone, but there was no response.

The Dutch couple then climbed down from the mountain to seek help from villagers.

After being alerted by the village chief about the missing tourist at about 3pm, a team of officials from the Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi-Phi national park, police and local officials was quickly formed to search throughout the night, but they could not find any trace of Tim.

An official said that the distance from Nak waterfall to the office of the Khao Ngorn Nak is only about 3.5km.
