The BioThai Foundation claims there is an important report from the Fisheries Department regarding DNA analysis of Blackchin tilapia samples from various watercourses, which sheds light on the origin of the current proliferation of the non-indigenous fish species in Thailand.

Vitoon Lienchamroon, secretary-general of the foundation, said today that the House committee probing the spread of the species, to develop measures to deal with the problem, has not seen the report and BioThai is ready to share the information with the committee.

From the information obtained by BioThai, he maintains that the origin can be traced to the Yeesarn fish farm, operated by Charoen Pokphand Foods (CPF) and its surrounding areas.

He noted that there is no evidence yet to prove that the Yeesarn farm had not been used for fish farming, adding that Bio Thai has more evidence about the Yeesarn fish farm than that already posted on social media, which has prompted the threat of legal action by CPF against BioThai.

Nonetheless, BioThai appears unperturbed by the threat, claiming that the EnLaw Foundation has volunteered to fight the case on behalf of Bio Thai.

Vitoon urged CPF to give its side of the story to the House committee face-to-face with the Bio Thai, instead of giving separate press conferences.

Vitoon is scheduled to testify before the House committee today.
