Thai prime minister Srettha Thavisin and his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, met today for a bi-lateral meeting and working visit to Sungai Golok district of Narathiwat and then to the Kelantan state of northern Malaysia.

Part of Srettha’s X post, in which he tagged Anwar Ibrahim, reads; “I am certain that our political will, seen today, will bring peace and prosperity to our peoples on both sides of the border.”

The talks covered a wide range of issues, from trade and investment cooperation, tourism and the Halal food industry to transportation, dredging of the Kolok River to ease flooding and the upgrading of the bridge connecting Rantau Panjang and Sungai Golok.

Prime Minister Srettha said the meeting is intended to boost common peace and prosperity and to demonstrate the determination of the two leaders to restore peace in the border region.

In another X post, Srettha wrote; “On our joint working visit to Su-ngai Kolok, in Narathiwat Province of Thailand, and Rantau Panjang, in Kelantan State of Malaysia, H.E. Prime Minister @anwaribrahim of Malaysia and I expressed our political will towards peace and development for the well-being of our peoples.”

Srettha also mentioned the Rubber City project, which will connect Songkhla and Kedah to facilitate the rubber trade for both countries.

Malaysia is on the list of destinations in the planned strategic partnership called ‘Six Countries, One Destination’, which aims to promote regional tourism.

Its ‘Pasir Mas Halal Park’ in Kelantan, which is about 23 kilometres from the Sungai Kolok border checkpoint, is also a large industrial park.

According to the Thai prime minister, Halal food manufacturers in Pasir Mas have a strong demand for raw ingredients and goods from Thailand.

The prime minister was accompanied by Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Foreign Minister Maris, Army Commander-in-Chief General Charoenchai Hinthao, Pol Lt-Col Wannapong Kotcharak, secretary-general of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre, Pol Lt-Gen Santi Sakuntanark, commander of the Fourth Army Region, and director of the National Intelligence Agency Tanat Suwannanon.
