Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa will begin his official visit to Malaysia today, at the invitation of his Malaysian counterpart, Mohamad Hasan.

Both ministers will co-chair the 15th Joint Commission Meeting for Bilateral Cooperation and the 6th Meeting of the Committee on the Joint Development Strategy for Border Areas between Thailand and Malaysia.

This is Maris’ first visit to Malaysia since he was sworn in as foreign minister in May this year.

According to a statement by Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry, they expect to discuss and review the progress in bilateral cooperation, including political and security matters, the economy, tourism, social and cultural issues, as well as connectivity along the border areas.

Maris’ two-day official visit comes just a day after Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, visited the border areas of both countries on Saturday.

Maris is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Anwar tomorrow.
