The Metropolitan Police have deployed about 100 officers to maintain order, direct traffic and facilitate the Bangkok Pride 2024 parade and related activities today.
The parade, from the National Stadium, along Rama 1 Road to Ratchaprasong Intersection, will last from 3pm until 5.30pm.
Motorists are advised that Rama 1 Road will be closed from 2pm until 5pm for the parade.
The theme of the parade this year is “Celebration of Love” and its five sections will highlight marriage equality, self-determination of gender, human dignity, peace and liberty.
The Nursing Council of Thailand has also announced that nurses can now wear uniforms reflecting their chosen gender.
Move Forward MP Tunyawaj Kamolwongwat, a member of the House committee scrutinising the bill on marriage equality, said the party will push to allow people to use “Mr. “or “Mrs.” as the prefix to their names to reflect their chosen gender.
The marriage equality bill is due to be deliberated by the Senate on June 18th. The event will be live streamed on the Thai PBS Facebook and YouTube pages.
