The Constitutional Court, which ordered the dissolution of the Move Forward Party today, has called on academics, politicians and foreign diplomats at all levels to respect the Court’s orders and adhere to mutual diplomatic and international protocols.

The Court wrote in its verdict that it had to dissolve the party, due to its severe violations of political party laws, which are applied fairly to all parties.

“Each country has its own constitution and internal legislation, which differ from other countries’. Therefore, any expression of opinion should be conducted according to international and diplomatic standards.”

The Court also wrote that it wanted to put an end to the party’s attempts to undermine the country’s democracy under a constitutional Monarchy.

After dissolving the party, the court also debarred its executives from politics for ten years, with immediate effect.

Ahead of the Court’s ruling today, a group of European Union diplomats had met with Move Forward party’s former leader, Pita Limjaroenrat, in what was seen as an expression of support for the party and an attempt to put pressure the Court.

Some ASEAN parliamentarians have also publicly voiced their opposition to the dissolution.
