A total of 16.2 million people successfully registered for the digital wallet scheme today, which is the first day of its registration, said Chai Wacharonke, the government spokesman.

He advised those experiencing problems to first delete the Thang Rath application from their mobile phones and then download it again.

Earlier, Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat reported that about 10.5 million people had successfully registered for the scheme within six hours of registration starting at 8 a.m.

About 50 million are eligible to receive the financial benefit from the scheme.

Since 8am this morning, the “Thang Rath” application has surged to the top trending position on the X platform, as Thais across the country started to register for the “digital wallet” scheme and claim the one-time 10,000 baht financial benefit, to be disbursed in the fourth quarter of this year.

In his “X” post this morning, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said that millions of people may try to register simultaneously today, as he advised them that they still have September 15th to do so.

He reassured them that they will definitely receive the money if they qualify, adding that, if they have problems registering, they can call Hotline Number 1111 for advice.

After completing the registration process, applicants will receive a message on their smart phones informing them that their registered personal information has been received and will be sent for screening.

Subsequently, they will receive the second message notifying them that their personal information is being screened.

The registration system was temporarily disrupted yesterday, as several people complained that they had tried to register, but failed.

Thai PBS reporters said that they encountered similar problems when they tried to register yesterday, adding that, after several attempts, they succeeded in getting through the facial scanning process to confirm their identities.

The House of Representatives passed the second and final readings of the 122 billion baht supplementary budget bill yesterday, to fund the digital wallet scheme. The bill will now go to the Senate for deliberation.
