The Election Commission (EC) is investigating two complaints, filed against Senator Keskamol Pleansamai over her claimed educational credentials, specifically her professorship and Ph.D. from California University.

An informed EC source said the two complaints were received on July 1st and July 5th, before the EC announced the official results of the election of senators on July 10th.

The source explained that, since the senator election law does not specify a required level of education for senatorial candidates, the EC went ahead with the announcement of the results of the final round of voting, despite receiving the two complaints.

It also said that the EC will coordinate with other agencies to gather evidence to determine the authenticity of Keskamol’s academic credentials, to ensure fairness to all parties concerned.

According to Section 77 of the senator election act, anyone who deceives, forces, intimidates, uses influence, lies or convinces the other candidates to misunderstand the qualifications or capabilities of any candidate, to vote for or against such candidate, is liable to 1-10 years imprisonment and/or a fine of between 20,000 and 200,000 baht.
