Samui opened again to foreign arrivals this week, using a tourism model that is a little different from the Phuket “sandbox”. For the tourists, the COVID-19 restrictions will be stricter than on Phuket, with some freedom to enjoy tourism activities with listed businesses.

These businesses have been through a lengthy certification process and extensive training with medical professionals and public health officials, have learned how to protect themselves and how to make it safe for the visitors.

During the second week, tourists can go anywhere on Samui, Phang Ngan and Tao islands.

Samui’s District Chief, Teerapong Chuaychoo said the locals are very cooperative and Samui has been on this journey for almost a year now. The island began with 14 days of the so called “Alternative Local Quarantine”. Every plan the island makes, he said, there are always people’s organizations joining in the process.
