“A lot of those who took part in the October-14 Uprising are still politically active. The uprising was followed by another uprising in May, 1992 which was known as a “revolt of the mobile phone mob”. And it was the middle-class people that carried the torch up until when we had the 1997 constitution which enshrined guarantee of rights and freedom for the people.  It was designed to fight against corruption, leading to the establishment of the National Counter Corruption Commission which succeeded in seizing assets worth over 233 million baht from corrupt politicians.  For the first time, people can participate in the fight against corruption. Today, the demand for political change is basically their fight against corruption.  It’s a fight against political monopoly which breeds economic monopoly. And that’s the legacy of the October-14 Uprising.”
