A 66-year old Thai woman, who worked as a chef at a Thai restaurant in Washington DC, died of COVID-19 at the Med Star Hospital in Georgetown on Saturday.

According to the Thai embassy in Washington DC, the victim held dual citizenship and had been living in the US for a long time. She became the first Thai woman to die from the virus outside Thailand.

Ambassador H.E. Thani Thongpakdee has extended his condolences to the woman’s family and promised to arrange appropriate help for them.
