The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has voted 6:1 to rule former MP and leader of the Thai Civilised Party, Mongkolkit Suksintharanon, guilty of gross ethical misconduct for taking a group of students to watch the Thai movie, “4Kings”, two years ago.

Currently a member of the Democrat party, Mongkolkit admitted that the ruling has come as a shock to him, because he had not been notified by the NACC of the charge and was not invited to defend himself.

He claims that he took the students to see the movie at about 5.40pm. The Lower House had already closed at 4.30pm. He claims to have sought permission to take leave from 2pm, so he could return home to dress for the appointment with the students.

Mongkolkit said that he would try to establish whether the NACC had followed procedure in investigating his conduct and vowed to take the case to the Administrative Court to seek justice.

Following the guilty ruling, the NACC will forward the case to the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders, seeking political debarment of Mongkolkit.
