A former businessman has teamed up with local residents in Rim Ping of Lamphun province, to prepare and give away boxed meals to low-income villagers, aimed at reducing their cost of living.

Narong Srisantitham, a former clothing company owner, who relocated from Bangkok to Lamphun after the COVID-19 crisis, has been using his personal funds, along with donations from friends, to give away boxed meals for over a month. They have distributed a total of 1,000 to date.

The meal giveaway occurs every Tuesday and Thursday, at around 11:30am, with approximately 100 boxes given out each day. The menu varies. Today’s offerings included stir-fried pork with shrimp and stink beans, and rice with omelette and mackerel chili paste.

Narong said, “I’ll continue doing this until all the funds are used up. Even though it’s a small contribution, I feel happy to be helping those in need.”

The recipients of the meals said that this assistance helps reduce their family expenses, which is especially helpful considering the current high cost of living.

Arwut Munna, a local resident, said that, besides receiving food, the community has come to recognise the giveaway location as a hub for broader sharing and support. Specifically, donated clothing is also made available there for free to those in need.
