The spacious lawn at the front of Government House in Bangkok has been re-turfed, as part of a major face-lift, reported to be costing ฺBt138 million.

The old grass has been removed and replaced with Paspalum grass and fresh pot plants.

Natthriya Thaweevong, PM’s deputy secretary general, claimed a report that Bt138 million has been spent on the face-lift as a misunderstanding. She explained that this budget did not cover only the replacement of the grass, but also the improvement of IT and cyber security systems, plus other maintenance at Government House.

She maintains that the expenditure is in line with regulations, reasonable and necessary, because Government House is an important location for the government and its appearance also affects the image of the country.
