Almost all the Thai people working in the so-called “red zone” in Israel have been evacuated to safety, said Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin today (Friday), quoting the Israeli ambassador to Thailand.

The prime minister invited the ambassador, Orna Sagiv, to Government House today to discuss the situation of Thais working in Israel, the evacuation plan for those who want to return home as well as the Thai government’s request to Israel for help in securing the release of Thai nationals being held hostage by Hamas.

He said that he asked the ambassador to convey the government’s message, asking Israel to facilitate the evacuation of Thais from Israel, adding that the envoy offered her assurance that the Israeli government is treating the evacuation of people from the danger areas and the provision of psychiatric care to those suffering from trauma as the highest priority.

The envoy claimed that 99% percent of Thais working in the “red zone” have been evacuated to safety, said the prime minister, adding that he had asked the ambassador to check a report that some Thais have been forced, by their Israeli employers, to continue working in areas where fighting is still raging between Israeli forces and Hamas militants.

The prime minister said he reminded the ambassador of Thailand’s neutral stance in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
