Thailand is one of the LGBTQ friendliest countries in the world. Members of the LGBTQ community can do well in life and enjoy relatively wide freedoms. The religious journey can now be added to that list of freedoms.

A humble Chiang Mai monastery, Suanpa Paiboonpoonsuk, offers ordination to members of the LGBTQ community, including trans women, who usually have no chance of entering the monkhood, to become a yokini nun.

Pretty similar to Buddhist monks and nuns elsewhere, priestesses here have their heads shaved, and precepts are observed, as they try to cleanse themselves off the impurities of the secular world outside.
