A bill to decriminalise and regulate adult videos (AVs) and sex toys in Thailand will be proposed to parliament for debate by Move Forward MP for Bangkok Taopiphop Limjittrakorn.

In his Facebook post today, the lawmaker well-known for his previous proposal for the liberalisation of the alcoholic beverage industry, insisted that his bill is not just to liberalise AVs and sex toys, but to legalise and regulate their use by adults only.

He said that this can be done by amending Section 287 of the Criminal Code, replacing the “total ban” on AVs and sex toys with “controlled use by adults who are over 20” and restrictions on scenes of simulated or actual sexual violence in the AVs.

He also said that the Thai Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) and Thailand Industrial Standards Institute (TICI) would be empowered to issue edicts to control the quality standards of sex toys and AVs.

Taopiphop said he is fully aware of the moral sentiment about this controversial issue for Thailand, but he is ready to face criticism by and consequences from his detractors over his proposal.
