The National Olympic Committee of Thailand has decided to replace the much-criticised Thai athlete uniforms for the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

The new version, designed by Grand Sports and four other teams of designers, will feature the intricate “Ban Chiang” pattern.

The original uniform, unveiled on the ‘Stadium TH’ Facebook page, immediately drew mixed reactions from netizens.

Modelled by Thai national badminton player Sapsiree Taerattanachai, the uniform was inspired by the Phraratchathan (Royally bestowed) long-sleeved suit, frequently worn by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, his cabinet ministers and senior government officials.

Made of light blue Thai silk, it had a mandarin collar.
