The parliament will meet next Wednesday to vote for a new First deputy House speaker, replacing Padipat Suntiphada, who was banned from politics for ten years by the Constitutional Court, according to the government whip chief.

Wisut Chaiyanarun, a Pheu Thai MP, said it was still too soon to determine who will replace Padipat, but they will surely be an MP from the government coalition side.

There is much speculation about who will fill the position, Wisut said, adding that he himself has doubts as well.

“There is a protocol for the issue to be discussed with all the parties first,” he said.

The charter court disbanded the Move Forward party yesterday over its campaign to amend the lèse majesté law and banned its executive members from politics for ten years.

Padipat was an executive member of the now-defunct party, before moving to the Fair Party in a political tactic to retain the position as Deputy House Speaker last October.
