The first meeting of new senators has been scheduled for next Tuesday, Napaporn Jaisajja, Secretary-General of the Senate, said today.

After being sworn in, the 200 new senators will vote for the Senate president and the vice presidents.

Napaporn said the three most senior senators will be invited to conduct the voting. They are Pol Lt Gen Yutthana Thaipakdee (78), Lae Dilokvidhyarat (77) and Boonsong Noisophon (75).

The names of the Senate’s president and their vice presidents will be sent for royal approval via the Prime Minister.

Napaporn was speaking on the last day on which new senators can report to the Senate’s secretariat.

At the time of the interview, she said there were still two senators-elect who had not come to report.

They are expected to show up this afternoon.
