The Juvenile and Family Court in Sa Kaeo province today fined the parents of five youths, who allegedly killed a 47-year-old woman in early January and disposed of the body near a school pond, 5,000 baht each.

The court found the five sets of parents guilty of promoting or consenting to their children behaving improperly, in way which made it more likely that they would commit offences, in accordance with the Child Protection Act. The penalties are three-months in prison and/or a maximum fine of 30,000 baht on conviction.

The court initially fined each of the parents 10,000 baht, but halved the amount due to their confessions.

The incident dates back to January 12th, when the body of the victim, “Buapun”, was found near a pond next to the Sri Aranyothai kindergarten school in Sa Kaeo province. Police then summoned the victim’s husband, 56-year-old Panya, for questioning and he admitted attacking the victim with a chair, following a heated quarrel. After finding her dead, he dumped her body near the school.

A subsequent check of the CCTV system in the vicinity of her regular convenience store, however, showed five youths, riding two motorcycles, approach the victim and taunting her. The footage also shows the deadly assault.

The evidence led to the arrest of the five youths two days later and the release of Panya from detention. The five suspects allegedly confessed to assaulting the victim and dumping her body near the school.
