Police believe that hidden elements are behind a recent incident, in which members of the anti-monarchy Taluwang group sounded a car horn at the convoy of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on an expressway in Bangkok, Pol Gen Torsak Sukvimol, the national police chief, told the media today, as reaction to the group’s conduct intensifies.
He said that police are investigating and collecting evidence to support charges against backers of the Taluwang group, noting that they have to proceed cautiously to make sure that the evidence is sufficient to support charges against both the group and their backers.
The police chief said they need two more days to wrap up the cases against certain members of the group, among them Tantawan Tuatulanon, over the Royal motorcade incident, so that they can file charges against them and have their bailrevoked.
Tantawan is currently out on bail on lèse majesté charges over an incident from over a year ago, when she and a few other group members under took an opinion poll about Royal motorcades.
Pol Gen Torsak was summoned to a meeting with Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin yesterday, to discuss security for the Royal Family in general and, in particular, the Royal motorcade incident.
He offered a public assurance that the police have tight security protocols in place for members of the Royal Family, but declined to elaborate. “We, the police, protect members of the Royal Family with our lives,” said the police chief.
Regarding the Taluwang group’s alleged backers, he said police believe they are in Thailand, adding that they are not sure yet whether there are politicians among them.
