A task force has been set up by the Royal Thai Police to fight illegal gambling on football, both online and offline, during the month-long World Cup 2022, which kicks off tonight at 11pm local time.
The task force will be supervised by Pol Gen Torsak Sukvimol, the deputy national police chief.
The national police chief, Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat, said today (Sunday) that undercover officers will target their surveillance on game rooms, internet parlours and other venues where gamblers usually gather.
The police chief warned that they will deal harshly with illegal bookmakers and online gambling operators, as he urged the public to inform the police about illegal gambling activities by calling 191 or 1599.
Thai soccer fans will be able to watch all 64 World Cup 2022 matches live, following the recent conclusion of a broadcast rights deal between the Sports Authority of Thailand and FIFA. Seventeen free television channels will broadcast the matches in rotation, with True4U24 carrying the opening match.
