Charan Sanitwong Soi 69 in Thon Buri, where the Ban Chan Song La residence of the Shinawatra family is located, was very active today, with vehicles of various sorts entering and exiting the premises, as convicted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is expected to be released on parole tomorrow from the Police General Hospital.

Pheu Thai party leader Paetongtarn, Thaksin’s youngest daughter, posted a huge greeting banner, drawn by all Thaksin’s grandchildren, on Instagram. The physical banner was later hung in front of the residence.

The greetings card reads: “Welcome home grandpa” and “We’ve been waiting for this for so long”. It was signed by all the grandchildren.

Staunch supporters of Thaksin, among them Wallee Sapradit and Pusadee Klinthong staged “hug Thaksin’s home” activities in front of the residence.

Rumours were this morning that Thaksin would be transferred to Rama 9 hospital, after being discharged from Police General Hospital, but this was later denied by Paetongtarn.

At about 4pm, officials from the Corrections Department went to the Police General Hospital building, in which Thaksin is detained, to check the preparations for his transfer to their custody and escort to Ban Chan Song La after his release.

Phichit Chaimongkhon, leader of the anti-Thaksin activist group, said in a Facebook post today that the group will go to the Police General Hospital tonight to observe the release of Thaksin on parole.
