A para-military ranger was killed and six others were injured by a roadside IED in Raman district of Thailand’s southern restive province of Yala today.

The seven-man unit, from the 41st para-military regiment, was on a foot patrol in Kero sub-district, providing protection to villagers. Upon arrival at a cemetery in Baan Pulamong, insurgents hiding in the bushes detonated an improvised explosive device (IED).

The force of the explosion killed Ranger Arnas Maya-ing and injured the six others.

Reinforcements were dispatched to take the dead and injured to Kapor Hospital. The scene of the explosion and nearby areas were cordoned off, as a bomb disposal squad scoured the area for more devices.

None were found.
