A Revenue Department official, attached to Bang Sao Thong district in Samut Prakan province, and three associates have been ruled by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to be “unusually rich” for having about 2.1 billion baht in their bank accounts.

Sornchai Chuvichien, NACC assistant secretary-general, said that “Danai”, a revenue specialist, has 1.189 billion baht in seven accounts, “Cholatharn” has 559 million baht in five bank accounts, “Duangkamon” has 334 million baht in three bank accounts and “Uthumporn” has 1.8 million baht in one bank account.

He said that the four individuals are unable to explain to the NACC how and where they acquired so much money, which is considerably beyond their visible and legitimate earnings.

The NACC has submitted their findings to public prosecutors, seeking an order from the Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases to have the 2.085 billion baht impounded and the suspects charged with corruption.

Following the NACC’s findings, it has been reported that three out of the four individuals from the Revenue Department have already been dismissed. The fourth person, who was a temporary employee, had her contract terminated.”
