Six migrant workers were crushed to death and another sustained serious injuries when a huge crane collapsed at a factory construction site in Pluak Daeng district of Rayong province.
After the accident, which occurred at about 5pm on Friday, the surviving workers prevented emergency crews from retrieving the bodies of those who died until the management of the company agreed to pay compensation to the families of the victims, but they did let the injured be recovered and be taken to the district hospital.
Four huge concrete ballast blocks also crashed to the ground.
At the time of this report, police were still negotiating with the workers to allow recovery teams to retrieve the dead bodies for autopsy.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
