Two people were shot by a fellow passenger on a Phuket-Phatthalung mini bus, as it was travelling through Mueang district of Phuket on Friday morning.

The shooting, which took place at about 6.50am on the outbound Thepkasattri Road, prompted 30 police officers to respond to incident. They closed off the outbound lane.

According to the bus driver, who managed to escape, along with eight other passengers, there were nine passengers on board when the bus left the Transport Company’s bus terminal for Phatthalung at about 6.40am.

About 10 minutes into the journey, the driver said he heard a gunshot at the back of the bus and then a female passenger ran towards him, screaming for help, saying she had been shot.

He said he stopped the vehicle on the road side, then there was a second shot and a man was wounded, adding that a commotion erupted as all the passengers, including himself, scrambled to get out.

The gunman has reportedly shot himself on the bus, as police try to talk him into surrendering.

The two injured passengers were rushed to hospital.

The motive for the shooting is not yet known at the time of this report.
