A Thai woman, working illegally in South Korea, has been infected with COVID-19 and admitted to hospital for treatment after she had an examination on February 29th.
Pinyuda Chamchan, labour attaché at the Thai embassy in Seoul, reported that the 27-year old, who was working illegally at a laundry in the Kimson area near Daegu town, which is the centre of the coronavirus outbreak in South Korea, had symptoms on February 26th, but went to a hospital three days later for tests, which confirmed the coronavirus infection.
The attaché said that the South Korean government will bear all the medical expenses of the worker.
Thailand’s labour deputy permanent secretary, Thienrat Namawawat, said that the woman’s condition was not serious, but Korean health officials are monitoring the condition of her husband, who is yet to exhibit symptoms.
She said that the Thai Labour Ministry has sought, from South Korean immigration officials, a full list of illegal Thai workers who have registered to return home, so preparations can be made for their arrival in Thailand.
Meanwhile, the Internal Trade Department has started selling face masks to members of the public at 10 baht per pack of four.
On Friday, the trucks will visit 21 locations, namely Sanam Luang, Wang Lang pier, Lumpini park, Victory Monument, China Town, Government Savings Bank head office, Fashion Iceland shopping mall, Kasetsart University, Min Buri market, Mahidol University, the Giant Swing, Khlong Toei market, Terminal 21 shopping mall, Mega Bang Na shopping mall, Sriyan market and Bang Yai market.
