Thailand on Sunday expressed concern over the long-lasting negative impact of the disruption of food supply chains due to the Russia-Ukraine war, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ spokesman, Nikorndej Balandura.

In his intervention, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Russ Jalichandra said that the degradation of agricultural land due to the conflict not only diminishes immediate food production capabilities but also hampers long-term food security.

“Thailand is exploring ways to support Ukraine in its capacity-building efforts aimed at reviving and restoring agricultural land,” he added.

Food security is one of the four key issues discussed by the leaders and participants at the two-day Global Peace Summit for Ukraine.

It took place at Burgenstock in Switzerland.

Russ said that Thailand fully supports all initiatives that contribute to global food security during crises, including the Black Sea Grain Initiative.

Thailand wishes to see the return of this initiative or other constructive efforts to restore global food security.

Thailand was among the 90-plus countries attending to the two-day summit at Burgenstock in Switzerland.

Representatives from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia also joined the summit.
