The death toll in the past 24 hours from COVID-19 soared to a record high of 91 as Thailand logged 9,326 new infections nationwide today (Saturday), including 3,191 cases in Bangkok alone, according to CCSA spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin.
Cumulative infections, since April 1st, 2021, are 297,969. 216,492 have recovered and 42,687 are being treated in general hospitals and 37,602 in field hospitals. There are 2,738 severe cases, including 717 on ventilators. Total death toll, since April 1st, 2021, is 2,531.
Cumulative infections, since early last year, are 326,832 and the death toll since then is 2,625.
The other provinces logging a high number of infections today are Pathum Thani (672), Samut Prakan (603), Samut Sakhon (551), Chon Buri (359), Nonthaburi (334), Songkhla (225), Lop Buri (207), Saraburi (175) and Pattani (173).
New clusters have been reported at a tap water plant in Bang Pa-in district of Ayutthaya (9 cases), Sompob market in Sam Phran district of Nakhon Pathom (31 cases), at a plastic plant in Nakhon Chaisri district, also in Nakhon Pathom (28 cases) and at an electronic parts company in Ban Pong district of Ratchaburi (10 cases).
Dr. Taweesin said that more infections were found at the sites of existing clusters, such as at Talad Thai in Pathum Thani, where 543 new cases were found and 146 cases at a garment factory in Krathum Baen district of Samut Sakhon.
Of the 91 new deaths, 47 are men and 44 women. 51 are in Bangkok, 9 in Samut Prakan, 8 in Nonthaburi, 5 in Pathum Thani, 4 in Nakhon Pathom, 2 each in Khon Kaen, Roi-et and Narathiwat and 1 each in Phetchaburi, Maha Sarakham, Kamphaeng Phet, Songkhla, Phetchabun, Chachoengsao, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Prachuap Khiri Khan.
