COVID-19 infections are expected to peak in July, following 3,256 hospital admissions, including 16 fatalities, between June 23rd and 29th, according to Dr. Thongchai Keeratihattayakorn, chief of Thailand’s Disease Control Department.

Of the 3,256 hospital admissions, 709 suffered from lung infections and 336 of them required ventilators.

Total infections requiring admission since the beginning of this year are 31,205, of which 172 have died, most of whom were over 69.

The department has advised people over 60, especially those with underlying diseases, as well as pregnant women, to adhere strictly to preventive measures by wearing face masks when they are in crowded places and regularly washing their hands with soap or alcohol gel.

They are also advised to take a rapid antigen test if they develop symptoms associated with COVID-19, to see a doctor for appropriate treatment if the test is positive and to avoid close contact with vulnerable people.

Meanwhile, Dr. Apichart Wachiraphan, deputy director-general of the Disease Control Department, said that COVID-19 infections in Thailand are following the same pattern as seasonal flu infections related to crowded activities.

He predicted increased COVID-19 infections, which are expected to peak this month, adding, however, that the fatality rate is now estimated at 0.04%, which is much lower than the 2.16% recorded in June 2021.
