The Shinawatra family claims to be worried about the safety of paroled former prime minister Thaksin, following the attempted assassination of US presidential candidate Donald Trump, because Thaksin has been the target of assassination attempts in the past, according to his youngest daughter today.
“My father has been the target of shootings several times, so we are always cautious about this, but he always said that Thailand is a Buddhist country and Thai people are not that cruel,” Paetongtarn Shinawatra said.
She did not, however, give any details to support her claim that Thaksin has previously been the target of assassins.
U.S. presidential candidate Trump survived an assassination attempt as he spoke during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. The former president, his ear covered in blood from a wound, was surrounded and rushed away by Secret Service agents.
